About the Massage Franchise Opportunity
Until recently, massage therapy services have been provided by licensed massage therapists* (LMT) in a variety of settings including hair or nail salons, chiropractic offices, spas and health clubs. In general, massage therapists have been sub-contractors or room renters. In these work settings massage therapy is generally a secondary service. In cases such as these, employers often do not have a good understanding of how to schedule and support their massage therapists.
The massage industry has changed considerably and has created many new opportunities for wellness entrepreneurs, therapeutic massage studio owners as well as for certified and licensed* massage therapists. This growth has caused an increase in the number of new students learning the necessary skills to become a professional massage therapist. Recent reports suggest that 60,000 new therapists are graduating school each year to join the 300,000 current massage therapists. These new opportunities are helping more people who are involved in the massage industry to deliver their professional craft to more people, and at the same time earn a great living.
The Massage Franchise Opportunity Industry
This growth in the massage industry has caused the corporate world to take notice, springing some forward thinking entrepreneurs to bring professional therapeutic massage services to more people through franchising. Recent studies report that up to 47 million Americans receive a massage each year. The U.S. Department of Labor, Bureau of Labor Statistics reports that job growth and opportunity within the massage industry is on target for “faster than average” growth at 18% to 26%.
At the same time the massage industry is drawing more attraction, the franchise opportunity industry is growing at alarming speeds as well. Experts suggest that nearly 50% of all products bought and sold in America today are a result of a franchise business model. Franchise opportunities are showing success as more people are driven to be their own boss, but want to operate a business without accepting 100% of the risk. A franchise business model lets entrepreneurs “plug into” a proven business system that has already gone through the typical ups and downs that a start up may experience.
